Capture the culture of Tuscany

This region of Italy is most famous for its wines, and especially the Chianti. There is a well trodden tour known as the Chiantigiana, which meanders through the world renowned vineyards, and wineries giving partakers an insight into the making of this extraordinarially popular drink. Other wine tours can be taken, and an excelent way to really appreciate the breathtaking countryside is via a bike. You may also see many olive groves along your route.

A less well known pastime that can be enjoyed by holiday makers is Truffle Hunting, where you can venture out - usually during the midnight hour (when Truffles smell their strongest), with specially trained dogs. The dogs are used these days instead of the traditional pig because dogs can be trained to not eat the Truffles once they are found. The Truffle (which is a fungi), is then mainly used in pasta dishes, such as white tagliolini with butter. The Truffle is grated over the pasta, and has a very strong taste.

Tuscany's main cities include Florence, Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Arezzo and Livorno stretching from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Apennines. A driving tour between stunning sites like the Florence Cathedral and Uffizi Gallery taking in the Leaning Tower of Pisa along the way will leave you fully inspired by this wonderful region.
